    Ski Country
  • Robert Thomas (American, b. 1975) returns to Casterline|Goodman Gallery with his fourth solo exhibition, Ski Country, a vivid celebration of Colorado’s mountain culture and the timeless allure of winter. The show presents a new body of work inspired by the golden era of ski posters from the 1940s and 1950s—an age when bold typography, hand-painted graphics, and adventurous spirit defined the visual language of alpine travel.

Reimagining these historic designs through his own contemporary lens, Thomas fuses the nostalgia of vintage poster art with his distinctive painterly style. Each piece reflects his ongoing fascination with typography, color, and the thrill-seeking ethos of mountain life, honoring both the artistry of mid-century design and the enduring call of Colorado’s peaks. With Ski Country, Robert Thomas captures not only the romance of skiing’s golden age but also the deeper cultural spirit of those drawn to the mountains in winter—risk-takers, dreamers, and explorers who live for the snow.

Robert Thomas is a visual artist currently working out of Bucks County, PA. Thomas's artistic work is varied and is presented in multiple mediums such as paintings, sculptures and videos. Graduating in 1997 from the School of Visual Arts began an editorial path that led to publications like Andy Warhol's Interview magazine, NylonThe New York Times magazine and Surfing magazine. This influence can be seen in his work with his use of type and reference to commercial art. The self-described “obsessive” about design and typography, Thomas uses bold colors and radical typefaces, evocative of early racing posters, and this body of work also acts as an homage to a culture which inspires the artist.
