Photographed in Aspen, Colorado, Winter Outlaw tells the story of a West that continues

to evolve while remaining true to its roots.

The cowboy in this photograph is Jake, a Wyoming cowboy and member of one of the top
skijoring teams in the state. Like many people across the modern West, Jake doesn’t see
cowboying and skiing as separate worlds. To him, they are simply part of the same life.
What interests me most about this image is its authenticity. Nothing was staged for the sake of a
story. Jake is a real cowboy. He really competes in skijoring. This photograph simply captures

    who he already is.

The American West has always been shaped by independent people willing to forge their own
path. Today, that spirit looks a little different than it did a hundred years ago, but it is still very
much alive. Horses and ski slopes. Saddles and chairlifts. Tradition and adventure.

Winter Outlaw is a reminder that the West isn’t disappearing. It’s simply writing its next chapter.

This is the only photograph I've ever added color into.

Everything I create is built on truth in-camera, black and white, no manipulation. But this one
demanded something different. That red isn't symbolic. It isn't stylized. It is the exact red of a

Marlboro pack inserted intentionally, surgically because it felt right.

The cowboy was never originally about cigarettes. He was about independence. Grit. The idea
of the American frontier distilled into a single silhouette. Advertising borrowed him. America
believed him. And somewhere along the way, the myth became bigger than the product.
By isolating that red, the tension between commerce and character show. Between the
manufactured West and the one that still exists in dust, leather, and muscle.

This piece breaks my own rule because sometimes the rules are meant to be broken.
