Jaque Fragua b. 1988
Jaque Fragua (b. 1988, Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico) is a contemporary artist known for his bold, politically engaged work that addresses Indigenous identity, sovereignty, and cultural resilience. Working across painting, mural, and installation, Fragua blends influences from street art, graphic design, and popular culture with imagery rooted in his Jemez Pueblo heritage.
Fragua’s practice confronts ongoing histories of colonization and erasure while asserting a powerful contemporary Indigenous presence. His work often incorporates striking color, text, and iconography to challenge dominant narratives and provoke dialogue around representation, land, and resistance.
He has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, and his large-scale public murals have become an integral part of his practice, extending his message beyond the gallery into public space. Through his work, Fragua continues to create platforms for visibility, advocacy, and cultural affirmation.
